Disney calls them Imagineers[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Disney Imagineering is the research and development arm of The Walt Disney Company. The people working there are called Imagineers. They’re responsible for the creation, design and construction of Disney Theme parks and attractions worldwide.
You might think they’re only big thinkers. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Sure, with every project they envision the big picture, the big WOW!
But what Disney knows better than any other business is, the big WOW is created by planning the smallest detail, imagining everything down to the smallest nuance and then delivering it with integrated of Guest (employee) Service, Marketing and Cast Member (Employee) focused Leadership required to get it done.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Re-Imagine YOUR Business [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Is it time for you to take three days, this May, from working in your business and work on and Re-Imagine Your Business? Is it time to Re-Imagine your business to become THE thriving enterprise you’ve always wanted, and be free to live your life the way you want to live your life?
For three days you’ll become The Lead Imagineer of YOUR Business, but you won’t be alone. [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Imagine, three days discovering the behind the curtain principles, ideas, strategies and tactics one of the most profitable, maybe THE most respected, business in the world, uses to deliver profits five times that of its nearest competitor.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Imagine, discovering these principles, ideas, strategies and tactics with 8 other highly motivated Imagineers of their own businesses, along with me, Keith Lee, a 38-year student, teacher and fanatic of Disney Guest Service, Marketing and Leadership.
We’ll be a small group – no more than 10 entrepreneurs. I’m keeping this small so you can easily interact with me and the other 9 entrepreneurs.
You’ll discover the Disney principles you can use in your business to create your magical experience for your customers, patients, clients, members, or guests.
For three days you’ll be immersed in Re-Imagining your business – looking for the huge opportunities and understanding the nuances to getting it done.
And when you get excited about implementing a Disney principle, idea, strategy or tactic in your business; but don’t quite see how to do it, you’ll have nine other entrepreneurs, with the same focus on Disney Style Excellence helping you.
You’ll return to your business with the Three Disney Principles you need to become a highly profitable Mickey Mouse Company indelibly etched into your mind, heart, and soul.
But we’re not talking theory here. You’ll also take back dozens of strategies, ideas and tactics to successfully implement those three principles in your business.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Imagine, what would happen if, like Disney, your business was so popular you needed to raise prices because you were too busy? And when you raised prices, people just kept coming, and coming and coming. I’m guessing that’s a problem you’d like.
That’s Disney’s dilemma. The only significant complaint Disney gets is about the long lines. So, they raise ticket prices and people just keep coming and they raise prices again, and again…
Imagine, what would happen if you were THE premium priced option in your category, location, and market, and every time your customers did business with you, they left singing your praises happily and planning their next visit?
Ok, your customers will likely not leave singing Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah, but they should, and can, leave WOWED every time, impressed by the personal attention from your staff, ease of doing business with you, and feeling special and appreciated so they come back time and time again and rave to their friends and family about you.
The Harvard Business Review reports that if you can increase customer retention by 5%, you’ll increase profits by 25% to 95%. More than 80% of Disney Guests are returners. It’s no wonder Disney Theme Parks are 5 times more profitable than Universal.
Imagine, what would happen if you could charge 2, 3, 5 TIMES what your competitors charge? What would happen if you were the Whole Foods, Ritz Carlton, Zappos, or… Disney of your business category in your market area?
If you’ve been to a Disney theme park recently, you’ve undoubtedly seen the sea of bubbles created by Disney cast members operating battery powered bubble blowers at their small retail carts. Kids can’t resist playing in the bubbles or begging their parents for the $29.00 bubble blower, while similar items can be had online for about 9 bucks.[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”Register Now” style=”custom” custom_background=”#7c0d0f” custom_text=”#ffffff” size=”lg” align=”center” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fars.infusionsoft.app%2Fapp%2ForderForms%2FBusiness-Accelerator-Service-Boot-Camp-2%3FcookieUUID%3D20e14259-5057-424d-8ecc-cb46285d1591|||”][vc_column_text]On May 20, 2020 it’s time to stop imagining and begin creating your
Magical Business Experience
Disneyland opened on my first birthday, July 17, 1955. I often kid that Uncle Walt opened it for me as a birthday present.
Growing up, I was a Mouseketeer. The Mickey Mouse Club was on every day after school. I had my Mickey Mouse Ears, Daniel Boone coon skin cap and toy rifle.
And yes, like every little boy I had a huge crush on Annette Funicello.
I can still sing the Mickey Mouse Club March word for word. “Who’s the leader of the Club that’s made for you and me? M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E!”
The theme song for Daniel Boone is etched in my mind forever. Daniel Boone was a man, Yes, a big man! With an eye like an eagle and as tall as a mountain was he!”
We, of course watched The Wonderful World of Disney every Sunday night. I was fascinated at the end of the show when Walt toured us through Disneyland. I dreamed of going there someday and maybe, I would see Annette!
But vacations for us were always the same… We went to North Dakota to see cousins, uncles and aunts. I loved those trips but continued to dream of someday going to Disneyland.
Then… when I was 13 years old, mom and dad told us we were going Disneyland! I couldn’t believe it. Me at Disneyland!
The address on my birth certificate is Fink Trailer Park #9, Minot ND. Aunt Betty told me that mom and dad had was the big trailer. It was 8 feet wide by 24 feet long, and the 24 feet included the trailer hitch. Aunt Betty and Uncle Marlo’s small trailer was only 22 feet.
It had been ten years since we moved from the trailer, but I still didn’t think our family could afford Disneyland.
Mom and dad got in the pickup and my sister, Janice and I jumped in the camper, crawled up to the over-hang and off we went.
We had a wonderful trip, stopping at Sea Lion Caves in Oregon and the magnificent Redwoods in Northern California.
We drove by the entrance to Disneyland and camped at a park nearby. I was beside myself. We stopped for the obligatory picture in front of the park and entered the most magnificent wonderland I could imagine.
I soon found the reason we could afford Disneyland. My dad was the foreman at the Carnation Ice Cream Plant in Seattle. Carnation was a major sponsor at Disneyland, and we got free entrance and free rides. Back then, you paid for each ride. We got a lot of rides… even the coveted, most expensive, E-Ticket rides.
Throughout the day, I remember thinking, why doesn’t everyone live here?
The Cowsills were at the top of the pop music charts. They performed their smash hit, The Rain, The Park and Other Things on the Tomorrowland stage. I was in awe. To this day, The Rain, The Park and Other Things brings me back to that wonderful day.
Seven years later, my wife Patty and I honeymooned at Disneyland and danced to Les Brown and his Band of Renown. Since then, even though we live in the Seattle area, I’ve spent hundreds of days at Disneyland and Disney World.
We went so often, that when our kids were young teenagers, they asked Patty and me, “Do we need to go to Disney again this year?” A couple months later, a Disney commercial came on TV and they said, “We can go to Disney again.” And we did.
Patty and I took our daughter Jenny, and our “adopted” daughter Julie, to Disney World when they were in high school. Julie isn’t really adopted, but she lived with us through high school. When Julie graduated from college, she asked if we could go back to Disney World. She didn’t have to twist our arm.
When Patty turned 50, I told her to pack a bag with five days of clothes for a warm weather vacation. To Patty’s surprise, joining us at the airport were my son Travis, his wife Jen, Jenny and Julie.
The surprise got even better. The destination at the gate said, Santa Ana. Patty didn’t know that Santa Ana was the closest airport to Disneyland, so she continued to ask where we were going. Finally, when little kids started showing up in Disney attire, she exclaimed, “We’re going to Disneyland!” She sounded like Patrick Mahomes after the Super Bowl.
We continue to make Disney memories, and I continue to study Disney with our Grandkids. When Carson turned five, we took him to Disneyland… just Carson, Patty and me. We did the same when Whitney turned five.
Last year Travis’ family, Patty, me and Jenny spent a week in Hawaii at Disney Aulani Resort.
Immersing my business in Disney…
In Search of Excellence, written by Tom Peters and Robert H. Waterman, Jr. was first published in 1982, the year after I started running American Retail Supply. I devoured the book, especially the section on Disney.
In 1984 I got a call from one of our sales reps, Mark Turner, telling me that PBS was airing a documentary on In Search of Excellence that night. I made sure I got home in time to record it.
A week later, I showed the Disney portion of the video to our entire staff. Since then, every new team member watches the video in their first hour of employment and we review it with everyone each year.
Disney first day Cast Member Training, Traditions became the basis for the first-hour training for every new employee.
Our ongoing customer service training for our businesses, and our client’s businesses, is founded on Disney principles.
When I first watched the In Search of Excellence Disney training 35 video years ago, I dreamed of leading a group to Disney, and discovering how to use Disney principles, ideas, strategies, and tactics to grow their businesses.
For years, to some extent, I was able to do that. Twice a year, we exhibited at the Los Angeles Gift Show. Every six months, we would go a day early to experience Disney and discuss how we could use their Guest Service and Marketing in our business.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Why Just Nine Others?
Have you ever been on a bus tour? Patty and I often go on cruises. On our first cruise, while in Athens, we took a tour on a Greyhound sized bus. Then we went on one with a small bus – maybe 16 people. We’ve never gone on a big bus tour again!
The small group gives you the opportunity to ask all the questions you want, get ideas from your fellow entrepreneurs and get input from me.
In addition, Disneyland and California Adventure are our classrooms and Disney has firm rules about groups blocking pathways. We’ll explore the park, discover the lesson for you to take back to your business, and then tuck into an out-of-the-way spot to discuss it. It just doesn’t work with a big group.
If you’ve been paying attention to me, you know that I’m not working now because I need the money. I do what I do because I love doing it and I’m not willing to do things I don’t want to do. I’m keeping this small because I have no desire to herd cats!
I also don’t want to try to get 30 people a Fastpass to ride The Jungle Cruise together so you can discover, and have etched into you mind forever , the most important customer service/marketing lesson of all. The lesson that has your patients, customers, clients, guests, or members coming back time and time again, and telling their friends about you, even when you mess up.
We’re having two fabulous dinners at wonderful restaurants (it’s a lot easier to learn from the best when you experience the best) and I frankly just don’t want to mess with getting 30 people rounded up to do that.
And I refuse to speak into a mouthpiece and have you listen through an earpiece. I’ll be talking with you – not at you!
You’ll learn and discover in ways that simply can’t be achieved in a big group.
And yes, you did read that right, the parks are our classroom. Who the heck wants to be stuck in a classroom at Disneyland? We’ll experience it and learn it at the same time, and since we’re a small group Disneyland, California Adventure, the lobby of the Grand Californian and downtown Disney are our classrooms. It’s a ton of fun!
But Why NINE? Why not eight or ten?
That’s easy… Ten is the number of rooms needed to get a great discount at the fabulous Grand Californian. Nine entrepreneurs, plus me, is ten.
Nine keeps the group small and gets the discount to keep your investment to a minimum.
But gosh you say,
“Isn’t it lots more expensive to take a small group?”
I guess, it might be, if you go with someone else… But not with me. Again, I love this and I’m doing it at Disneyland with people I enjoy. I wouldn’t call it work.
Plus, this is in no way my primary, or even an important, source of income.
I love Disney and I love sharing what I know that makes Disney the huge success it is. And I love teaching the Leadership skills and principles I used at American Retail Supply, the same principles Disney now uses, to create a highly successful business that allows you to live your life the way you want to live your life.
Seems to be a recurring theme here eh?
OK, if you want to see your investment go ahead and turn to page 15. I think you’ll love it.
I’ve read just about everything there is to read, and watched just about every documentary ever made, about Walt Disney, Disneyland, and Disney World.
Most of it, rightfully, focuses on Guest service, marketing, innovation, imagination, creativity, and Walt’s never give up attitude. They’re fun to talk about, in fact we’re going to spend the majority of our time on them. For forty years they’re what made Disney, Disney.
But there’s one, new ingredient that, unless you study Disney closely TODAY,
everyone misses…

Shhh, Don’t tell anyone… Here’s the Missing Ingredient[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”The Missing” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:40|text_align:center|color:%23fe0000″ google_fonts=”font_family:Alef%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal” css=”.vc_custom_1583002234092{padding-top: 20px !important;}”][vc_custom_heading text=”Ingredient…” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:40|text_align:center|color:%23fe0000″ google_fonts=”font_family:Alef%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal” css=”.vc_custom_1583002251508{padding-top: 20px !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1582833569977{padding-top: 15px !important;}”]In his book Creating Magic, Lee Cockerell, the Former Executive Vice President of Operations at Walt Disney World Resort writes, “By the early 1990’s, the times were a-changin’. Competitors were starting to catch up, and certain aspects of the company’s management style began to seem outdated. The autocratic, top-down leadership approach of the past was less and less welcome in the changing social landscape; management experts predicted that the coming generations of workers and managers would thrive better in a more democratic, participatory environment.”
In the early and mid-1990s they started implementing that more democratic, participatory Leadership style at Disney Parks. While he allowed it, Michael Eisner, the CEO of the company at the time, focused on other priorities.
That tepid acceptance of the participatory environment changed dramatically, when Eisner was forced out in 2005 by the Board of Directors and Robert Iger became CEO.
Before the change, Strategic Planning at Disney was the epitome of top down Leadership at Disney. Frankly, leadership is entirely the wrong word. It was top down, autocratic management of everything.
One of the most important lesson you’ll discover on your excursion is the difference in leadership and management. When to lead, and when to manage.
Iger reduced the office of Strategic Planning from sixty-five people to fifteen and fired the head of the department. Iger calls it my first huge accomplishment. It signaled a dramatic change in Leadership style.
Iger says, “The change had a powerful instantaneous effect on morale. It was as if all of the windows were thrown open and fresh air was suddenly moving through.”
Another Disney Exec exclaimed to Iger, “If there were church bells on the steeples throughout Disney they would be ringing.”
Today, Iger is still the CEO at Disney and still practicing participatory leadership. Since he took over Disney, stock value has increased 600%. The Dow and S&P 500 has increased 300% in the same time period.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Today, the Disney Formula for Success is
Leadership -> Cast (Employee) Excellence -> Guest (Customer) Satisfaction -> Business Results
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Lee Cockerell says, “The customer doesn’t come first, leadership comes first.” I’m guessing you didn’t expect that from a top executive at Disney.
For almost 15 years now, Leadership has been at the top of Disney’s Formula for Success, yet you hear very little about it.
That’s why we’ll be studying Customer Service, Marketing and Employee Focused Leadership Lessons including:
- Make your people your brand – If you take nothing else from these three days, take this lesson back to your business.
That’s easy you say, he has Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Cinderella. That’s not at all what Cockerell is talking about!
In the Orlando area he’s talking about all 80,000 Disney Cast Members from costumed characters, to street sweepers and even persons you’ll never see, like those working in the laundry. We’ll discuss why it’s so important that even these behind the curtain staff are your brand.
It’s also critical to understand that these are not standalone leadership principles. They must fully integrate with guest service and marketing.
That all sounds great. Kind of touchy-feely, goody-two-shoes stuff, right? Sure, it’s nice, but you’re missing the boat completely if you think that’s what this is about.
Yes! You’ll get the big picture when it comes to leadership, but as important, is what you take back and implement. The specific strategies, ideas and tactics you’ll use to Make Your People Your Brand, getting everyone on board, creating your Mickey Mouse Company that gives you the freedom you want.
I don’t think it’s coincidence that Disney Theme Parks came to the realization they needed to change their management system in the early 1990’s and I created my Make-You-Happy Management System focused on democratic, participatory management in 1992!
The type of Leadership Disney now uses is the same type of team member focused leadership that led to my business, American Retail Supply being named The Best Business to Work For by Washington CEO Magazine… the type of Leadership that leads to double, even quadruple the profits of your competition.
You’ll discover exactly how to implement that Leadership in your business, and you’ll discover the critical difference in Leadership and Management.[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”Register Now” style=”custom” custom_background=”#7c0d0f” custom_text=”#ffffff” size=”lg” align=”center” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fars.infusionsoft.app%2Fapp%2ForderForms%2FBusiness-Accelerator-Service-Boot-Camp-2%3FcookieUUID%3D20e14259-5057-424d-8ecc-cb46285d1591|||”][vc_custom_heading text=”Now, it’s time for you to join me in Disneyland,” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:24|text_align:center|color:%23dd3333″ google_fonts=”font_family:Alef%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal”][vc_custom_heading text=”But only if you’re ready for massive improvement” font_container=”tag:p|font_size:24|text_align:center|color:%23dd3333″ google_fonts=”font_family:Alef%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:700%20bold%20regular%3A700%3Anormal”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1582834384265{padding-top: 15px !important;}”]Disney didn’t improve the amusement park, he reinvented it.
Jobs didn’t make a better phone, he reimagined it.
This isn’t about incremental improvement in your business or just copying the best practices in your business category. That’s not how you become exceptional and unique. That’s a prescription for ordinary.
This is about Re-Imagining, Re-Inventing, Re-Invigorating YOUR Business.
During our 3-day boot camp you’ll create YOUR Disney Customer Service, Marketing and Leadership Blueprint based on what you learn behind the curtain at DisneyLand.
Are You Ready?
- to make changes that increase profits 25% to 95%?
- to discover the secrets to making your employees your brand?
- to get you entire team on-board creating the business of your dreams, giving you the lifestyle and income, you deserve?
- to create the business that gives you the autonomy to work when you want, with the clients you want and enjoy the income and time you covet?
Who should attend?
This Disney Boot Camp is crucial for Business Owners, Entrepreneurs, or others with the authority to affect change in their organization who want to:
- Create a business in which customers, clients, patients, members or guests come back time and time again, and rave to their family and friends like the 10 year old getting off Space Mountain.
- Create a team in which every individual actively looks to continuously improve your business.
- Create a positive business in which team members are looking for co-workers doing things right, and everyone is picking each other up.
- Create a business that gets better every day, even when you’re not there.
- Create a business that allows YOU to live YOUR life the way YOU want to live YOUR life.

- you’re an employee of business, unless can make significant changes to the business or you’re with someone who can make changes in the business without needing to get approval must attend.
- you’re looking to just get information but aren’t ready to commit to doing something. Don’t waste your time or mine, and most importantly, don’t waste time for other attendees.
You may know that the Disney Institute has multi-day sessions which may be appropriate for you. Their program, as I write this is $5,425. But you then need a hotel ($500 for a so-so hotel), park tickets ($280), and it doesn’t include meals ($200). So, it’s over $6,000.00.
Disney Institute classes are typically 50 to 75 people in a class. Not the small friendly learning environment we’ll have. Their program, like everything at Disney, is strictly scripted with very little opportunity for one on one interaction with the facilitator or other attendees. (If you’ve ever been part of a mastermind group you know how much you learn from the other members. One idea shared by another attendee will likely pay for your boot camp many times over).
I’m guessing it has something to do with the cost, but most Disney Institute attendees come from large corporations, and the curriculum is geared towards large corporations with lot’s of managers. The needs of managers, even top level managers, working in large corporations are completely different than yours, the business owner.

I’m not an accountant or tax adviser so I can’t give tax advice. With that said, I’ve attended similar business training and with my accountant’s counsel I always write it off. We’ve gone through two comprehensive IRS audits and never had an issue. I can assure you, and your accountant, this is business training. You should ask your accountant to be sure. If he tells you no, I’d consider getting another accountant :).
Will I have any “down time” to experience the theme parks on my own or with my family?
The Boot Camp is fully immersive and intense! You will be busy from 6:30 pm Wednesday until 4:00 pm on Friday. Yes, as part of our curriculum, we’ll have fun in the parks and experience rides that will support our lessons. With that said, it won’t work to have your family join us for this. You’ll have around two hours on your own Thursday afternoon.
Can I stay with family or friends, or at another hotel?
We’ve carefully selected the Grand Californian to ensure the best experience. The days will be long, we’ll be travelling together directly to and from the hotel, and we can’t wait for stragglers. For these reasons and more, it’s a requirement to stay at The Grand Californian, and besides it’s included in the investment! You will love it!
Can I bring my spouse, kids, partner, or business associate?
Absolutely. You’re welcome to bring your family with you to the resort, and to stay with you in your room. Rooms at the resort will accommodate up to 2 adults and 3 kids, so you can all come and enjoy the facilities. Only paid attendees can join us during the Boot Camp. It’s not appropriate for anyone younger than a very mature high schooler who’s serious about business to join us. Employees, business partners and spouses are encouraged join us. We’ll be done at 4:00 pm on Friday.
